Curatorial notes

Pale Saints formed in Leeds in 1987 as a trio: singer/bassist Ian Masters, guitarist Graeme Naysmith, and drummer Chris Cooper. Signed to 4AD after Ivo Watts-Russell heard their demos, they were part of the first wave of shoegaze alongside My Bloody Valentine and Lush, though their music always had a more fragile, melodic quality than their noisier peers.
